Sometimes I think Blenko was at its best when it was thick and textured. I love running my fingers across that rough surface and looking deeply into the glass. I, too, am a former smoker, and I've pared back my ashtrays, but some are too pretty to let go. I particularly like your green one.

One of the earliest Blenko pieces in my parents home was the 'hoot owl' ashtray in cobalt. It sit on my father's desk in what is now referred to as a 'man cave'. It stunk to heaven because he didn't clean it out often. He's long gone but I still have the ashtray and happy to report, it wasn't any worse for the wear. I have two 'sisters' for it in other colors. You are right-- those suckers are heavy. You drop one of those on your foot and you'll know it. I love the book ends which have the same owl patter and have them in many colors.
